2017-2018 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level I (3-6 Years) Training

The Level I  course will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church Sharon Chapel in partnership with the Center for Children and Theology

2017- 2018 Course Dates

Courses meet for 10 sessions, once per month on Saturdays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., from September 2017 to June 2018.  Missed classes may be may up the following year as needed for the certification.  This course is offered yearly.

Course Fee

$700 - Individual

$500 -  2nd participant from same organization/institution

$350 - All Saints Parishioner/Parent 

The course fee includes certificate from the National Association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.

Tuition Agreement

Tuition may be paid online or by check.  Payments may be made in full or in two installments.  50% tuition is required to secure your spot in the course.  Withdrawals from the course will be refunded, minus a $50 adminstration fee, up to two week before the course begins.

Absences/Missed Classes

Makeup for a maximum of  two missed classes may be taken made up the following year by arrangement with formation leader.  

Course Objectives

To explore the developmental characteristics, needs, capacities and the religious potential of the 3-6 year old child

To meditate on the biblical and liturgical themes presented in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

To offer guideliines and assistance in setting up the atrium environment, materials making and the catechist's album of presentations

To further the catechist's ability to observe and learn from children and to support parents and the community of faith in nuturing the spiritual lives of children.  

Upon completion of the course participants will be certified to work in and atrium of 3 to 6 year old children.

Tuition Agreement

Course fees may be paid online.  Payments may be made in full or in two installments.  A minimum  $100 deposit  is required to register, with the balance due by start of course Sept. 16.  Withdrawals from the course will be refunded, minus a $50 adminstration fee, up to two week before the course begins.

Past Participants: Refresher Course

In a reciprocal agreement with the Center for Children and Theology, in Washington, DC, past participants in Level I courses sponsored by the Center in in Alexandrai at All Saints Sharon Chapel or at Christian Family Montessori School at St. Paul's Rock Creek Parish in DC, may register to attend this course for a refresher or to makeup a missed session at $20 per course meeting.  

Course Leader

Davette Himes  is the Director of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and the CGS outreach program at All Saints Episcopal Church - Sharon Chapel in Alexandria, VA. She is certified in all three levels of this work for children ages 3 to 12 years. She has spoken at regional and diocesan meetings about the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd with a particular focus on evangelization and outreach.
