Meeting to Discuss School Name Change
Time & Location
About the Event
In coming weeks, the Fairfax County School Board will be holding meetings and hearings to discuss whether Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield should change its name. People of Color have repeatedly shared that schools and community buildings named after Civil Era events and people make them deeply uncomfortable, and are a constant reminder of past horrors.
ASSC is organizing efforts to promote the name change along with other local churches. Please join us after the 10:30 service on Sunday, March 8th as we review the voting timelines, plans to move forward, and thoughts on how we can provide resources to help people voice their feelings on the idea of the name change. (To clarify, the School Board is voting on whether the name should be changed. They are not yet voting on or taking suggestions about what the name should be changed to.) We hope you will join us as we lift our voices in Christ and stand behind our POC friends and families as this proposal moves forward.
