I believe that loving our neighbors as ourselves requires us, as a people, to find a compassionate, humane, loving response for our sisters and brothers fleeing violence and seeking asylum in the United States. Jesus once fled his own homeland to avoid a murderous reality. Today, thousands more are doing the same.
So, I am going to DC this Saturday (tomorrow), to testify to God's Love for the alien, the stranger, and the immigrant, and to ask our government to stop separating families, to immediately reunite families already separated, and to stop forcing parents to make the choice between being together and being deported before they've even had a hearing. I would love to have some company.
