Coronavirus Update - March 11, 2020
Dear Sharon Chapel,
By order of Bishop Susan, Sunday services in our buildings are cancelled for the next two weeks.
Just minutes ago I was on a conference call with the Bishop, Diocesan Staff, and clergy of the diocese, hearing about our response to the health emergency. COVID-19 cases are growing exponentially and in order to slow the spread of the virus as much as possible, we are following the advice of epidemiologists and other experts we've consulted and cancelling our services across the diocese, including at Sharon Chapel, on both March 15th and March 22nd.
Instead, we will worship together electronically and by telephone. The Vestry and I will be meeting tonight via teleconference to discuss in detail and to plan our next steps. More details will follow in the coming days about schedule and access for our worship as well as about our overall response to the virus. For now, all Sharon Chapel activities, meetings, and services at the church buildings are cancelled.
Please continue to follow all hygiene guidelines, to check-in on each other, to continue your prayers for all those who are affected medically, financially, and emotionally. Even in such strange and trying times as these, God is still God, who loves us fiercely.
Holy and gracious God, give us the strength to meet the health crisis growing in our world. Enlighten researchers that they may discover the right vaccine against this disease. Guide the doctors, nurses and all medical technicians working with those who are infected to take correct actions for their care. Protect all medical staff and family or friends caring for those who are ill. Bring together the governments and governmental agencies around the world to work together to eradicate this health threat. All this we ask through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.
