"You shall count off seven weeks of years, seven times seven years, so that the period of seven weeks of years gives forty-nine years. Then you shall have the trumpet sounded loud; on the tenth day of the seventh month-on the day of atonement-you shall have the trumpet sounded throughout all your land. And you shall hallow the fiftieth year and you shall proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee for you: you shall return, every one of you, to your property and every one of you to your family." - Leviticus 25:8-9
Liberty, freedom, and family--the Jubilee year was special, powerful, and exciting. It ensured that no person or clan was trapped in a generational cycle of poverty or servitude. It declared by its design the sovereignty of God and the inherent trust in that sovereignty by the people of Israel. It was a year of celebration, a year of thanksgiving, a year of joy. This Sunday we celebrate something of our own Jubilee.
This Sunday we burn the mortgage!
Through almost 7 years of faithful and generous giving, praying, working, fundraising, managing, refinancing, and serving we will be free from debt! Please come this Sunday and give thanks to God as we together celebrate this milestone at our 8 am and 10 am services. Thank you very much to all those parishioners, past and present, who helped make this day possible.
The only question now is...What's Next?
